ECAC Men's East Hockey Rivals Babson, Norwich Square Off in Sun Life Frozen Fenway Event

BOSTON--The Eastern College Athletic Conference will have ECAC Men's East hockey rivals Babson College and Norwich University at center stage on Friday when the Beavers host the top-ranked Cadets in the Sun Life Frozen Fenway 2012 event. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Norwich enters the contest as the nation's No. 1 team in both the U.S. College Hockey Online and D3hockey.com polls, with an overall record of 10-0-1 and 6-0 in ECAC Men's East play. Babson is 3-10 overall, but 3-3 in conference play.

In a milestone event for the Babson College ice hockey program, the City of Boston, the Boston Red Sox, and Fenway Sports Management (FSM) announced on Dec. 2 that the Beavers' January 13 home game against ECAC East rival Norwich will be played at historic Fenway Park as part of Sun Life Frozen Fenway 2012.

The contest, which is the first Division III game ever held at the iconic ballpark, will be played as part of a college hockey doubleheader. Babson and Norwich will face off at 3:30 p.m., with Harvard meeting Union College in a Division I tilt at 7 p.m.

Tickets include both games of the doubleheader and are on sale now by phone at 877-REDSOX9 or online at redsox.com/frozenfenway. Prices are $10 for lower level grandstand and loge boxes (note: sightlines for these areas are limited for hockey), $20 for pavilion boxes, and $30 for pavilion club and left field pavilion reserved seating. Should weather force the cancellation of the game, it would be made up at the Babson Skating Center on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Fenway would refund the face value cost of all tickets sold.

The Babson-Norwich matchup will be one of only six college hockey games at Fenway this winter. The event is made even more special by the fact that the ballpark is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012. Two years ago, the venue hosted the NHL's Winter Classic between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers on New Year's Day 2010.

"We'd like to thank Fenway Sports Management and the Red Sox for offering us this incredible opportunity," said Babson head coach Jamie Rice '90. "To be able to host Norwich University in a game at Fenway Park is a once-in-a-lifetime event for our players, the program, and the College. We are very much looking forward to being a part of Sun Life Frozen Fenway 2012."

In conjunction with his historic contest, Babson will hold an alumni reception on Friday night following the game from 5:30pm– 7:30pm at Jillian's Boston (145 Ipswich Street).
