Saint Anselm Coach Ed Seney Earns Win No. 300

HOOKSETT, N.H. – Head coach Ed Seney
earned his 300th career victory as the Saint Anselm College
men’s ice hockey team posted a 7-1 victory over Southern New
Hampshire University Tuesday evening at the Ice Den. With the
victory, the Hawks improve to 4-3-1 on the season while the Penmen
fall to 1-9-1 overall on the year.
Seney, in his 10th season with Saint Anselm, now holds a career
record of 300-287-37. Prior to his tenure behind the bench at
the institution, Seney was the head coach of what is now SUNY
Potsdam for 14 years, accumulating a record of 169-187-16 with the
Bears. Since joining the Hawks, Seney holds a 131-101-17
record (.560), ranking second all-time in program history in
winning percentage.
A graduate of New England College in 1981, Seney served as an
assistant coach at his alma mater prior to serving as an assistant
coach at Norwich and Clarkson universities. A three-time
State University of New York Athletic Conference Coach of the Year
at Potsdam, Seney has won six coaching monikers overall and
four league championships in his career.
In Tuesday's contest, a non-conference tilt for both teams,
freshman Johnny Daniels (Andover, Mass.) potted what became the
game-winning goal at 15:08 of the first period, lifting Saint
Anselm to the early 2-0 lead. Kevin Vanous (Virginia Beach,
Va.) and Steve Mollo (Saunderstown, R.I.) collected assists on
Daniels’ second marker of the season.
Joey Agliato (Hauppage, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the game at
11:27 of the first period, knocking home a Kody Grondin (Hampton,
N.H.) feed for his third goal of the game. After a Charles
Wisniewski unassisted goal to open play in the second period, the
Hawks rattled off five unanswered goals to secure Seney’s
300th career victory.
Tucker Mullin (Andover, Mass.) and Timothy King (Weymouth, Mass.)
each potted their third goals of the season at 6:20 and 15:38 of
the middle stanza, respectively, to bolster the Hawks lead.
Tyler Savage (Johns Creek, Ga.) contributed his second goal of the
game to lift Saint Anselm to a 5-1 advantage exiting second period
play.
Liam McKillop (New York, N.Y.) scored his second collegiate goal at
1:24 of the third period, as Vanous recorded his third assist of
the contest. Sean Jenkins (Boston, Mass.) concluded the
evening’s scoring with his team-leading fourth goal of the
season, unassisted, at 6:39 of the third period.
Saint Anselm goaltender Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.)
posted his first collegiate victory in tonight’s game,
turning aside 18-of-19 shots on goal that he faced. His
counterpart, Tyler Holske, drew his ninth loss, halted 47-of-54
Saint Anselm shots on net.
The Hawks were 2-for-5 on the power play. The Penmen finished
0-for-2 with the man advantage.
NOTABLES: Coach Ed Seney collected his 300th
career victory last night and boasts a 300-288-37 (.510) record
between SUNY Potsdam and Saint Anselm…Since joining the
Hawks prior to the 2002-03 season, Seney holds a 131-101-17 record
(.560), ranking second all-time in program history in winning
percentage.
