MANCHESTER, N.H.--The Saint Anselm College ice hockey programs are asking for your help to combat breast cancer in a two-day event beginning this Friday at the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena and concluding the following day.  Both the men's and women's ice hockey teams will be raising awareness and funds to help the fight against breast cancer with proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen For The Cure®.

According to the Susan G. Komen website, it is estimated that there will be 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer alongside almost 39,510 breast cancer deaths this calendar year alone.  Your support at these upcoming games will not only help to raise awareness, but also funds, while helping a worthy cause that has undoubtedly affected someone in all of our lives.

The women's ice hockey players will don pink jerseys at each of their two games on Friday and Saturday and the men's ice hockey players will utilize pink accents in their game-day apparel and equipment.  Last season, the men's ice hockey team wore specialty jerseys during their contests against Hamilton College and Amherst College while the women's ice hockey program utilized pink tape and shoelaces with their uniforms.

During the second intermission in each of the four games, fans are able to participate in a special Chuck-A-Puck contest.  Fans will throw specially-numbered pucks onto the ice surface from their seats and the person that throws their foam puck closest to the target at center ice will take home a prize.

Players from both squads will be participating in the fundraising effort on campus in the week leading up to the games.   Special t-shirts will be sold at tables located in Davison Hall on Thursday and Friday, as well as at the games.  Last season, the combined efforts of both teams yielded over $5,000 in donations toward the cause.

Pink paper skates will be sold for $2.00 at a special table inside of Sullivan Arena that can include a personalized message to be hung on the glass surrounding the ice surface.  Special pink programs will also be available for purchase prior to the game with proceeds directly benefitting Susan G. Komen For The Cure®.

On the ice, the women's ice hockey team will face off against the Crusaders of the College of the Holy Cross in a 4:00 p.m. contest Friday, Feb. 3.  The men's ice hockey program will be opposing the No. 1 nationally-ranked team in Division III, the Cadets of Norwich University, in a 7:00 p.m. tilt.

Saturday's schedule of games opens at 1:00 p.m. with the women's ice hockey team taking on the Seahawks of Salve Regina University on Saturday, Feb. 4.  The final game of our Pink In The Rink event will pit the men's ice hockey team against the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown.

Donations will be accepted at the door for each of the four games.  For more information or to purchase pink paper skates, please contact Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey players Amy Zappen or Courtney Winters.
