ECAC Teams Well Represented in 11-Team NCAA Tournament Field

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Committee unveiled the bracket for the 2011 tournament field on Monday, and four programs from the Eastern College Athletic Conference playing leagues were selected.
ECAC Northeast champion Curry will square off against ECAC Men’s East champion Norwich in a first-round matchup at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kreitzberg Arena in Northfield, Vt. The Colonels are 16-8-3 overall after edging Wentworth Institute of Technology in overtime, 2-1, for the ECAC Northeast title on Saturday in Milton, Mass. The host Cadets (20-5-3) are ranked No. 2 and are the defending national champions. Norwich slipped by fifth-seeded Babson, 3-2 in overtime, to win the ECAC Men’s East crown.
Pool B entry Elmira (17-6-4) received a first-round bye and will play Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association champion Adrian (23-3-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Adrian, Mich. The nationally No. 6 ranked Soaring Eagles defeated Neumann 5-1 in the ECAC Men’s West championship game.
No. 12 ranked Neumann earned an at-large Pool C berth and the 14-8-5 Knights will face No. 7 Bowdoin in a first-round game at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Brunswick, Maine. The host Polar Bears (18-7-1) are the champions of the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
The quarterfinal round will be held on March 12 at campus sites. The semifinals and finals are slated for Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26.
