NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior forward Julie Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) earlier this week became the all-time goal-scoring leader for Norwich University women's hockey.
Fortier set the school record on Sunday in Worcester, Mass., where the Cadets registered a 5-0 victory over Holy Cross in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East game. She scored two goals and added an assist.
After sophomore forward Renee Lortie gave Norwich a 1-0 lead, Fortier notched the 73rd goal of her illustrious career in the Maroon and Gold on the power play to break Sophie Leclerc’s career benchmark (72 from 2008-11) and give the Cadets a 2-0 lead at the 12:35 mark of the first period.
“Julie has always been a big-game player for us so for her to break the record in a game against Holy Cross makes it extra special,” Norwich head coach Mark Bolding said. “She’s a dominant player that has the ability to take over a game and has established herself as one of the most dangerous forwards in the conference. To pass Sophie’s goals mark, especially so early in her senior season, is a testament to how good of a player Julie is and how hard she has worked during her four years here.”
Fortier continues her assault on the Norwich record books and now sits just 24 points shy of tying Leclerc’s all-time program record of 163 points on 72 goals and 91 assists.
